Frequently Asked Questions
How do I cancel my subscription?
You can cancel your subscription anytime through your iPhone:
- Open Settings → Tap your name at the top
- Tap Subscriptions
- Select Shush
- Tap Cancel Subscription
Your subscription will remain active until the end of your current billing period.
Why does Shush need microphone access?
The microphone is only used for the optional room calibration feature. During a 10-second scan, Shush analyzes ambient noise in your room to detect acoustic resonances.
Important: Audio is processed entirely on your device and is never recorded, stored, or transmitted. You can skip room calibration if you prefer not to grant microphone access.
What's the difference between the noise types?
- Brown Noise: Deep, rumbling sound - best for sleep and blocking low-frequency noise
- Pink Noise: Balanced, natural sound - best for concentration and studying
- Green Noise: Nature-like, centered around 500Hz - soothing ambient sound
- White Noise: Full-spectrum hiss - complete masking of all frequencies
Can I use Shush with other apps?
Shush takes exclusive control of your device's audio output to ensure the highest quality sound generation. This means it cannot play simultaneously with music apps, podcasts, or other audio apps.
Does the app work when my phone is locked?
Yes! Shush continues playing in the background when your screen is locked. You can control playback from the lock screen or Control Center.
How do I use the tinnitus relief feature?
The tinnitus feature allows you to notch out the specific frequency of your tinnitus tone:
- Tap Tinnitus Relief in the app
- Use Sweep Finder to match your tinnitus frequency
- Or select a common frequency preset
- The app applies a precise notch filter to reduce that frequency
Will this drain my battery?
Shush is optimized for minimal battery impact using Apple's hardware-accelerated audio processing (vDSP). Real-time generation actually uses less power than playing audio files because there's no disk access.
